Since its inception in 1998, the Tropicana Billfish Tournament has become a premier event in Papua New Guinea’s game fishing calendar. Held annually in the scenic waters of Rabaul and Kokopo, East New Britain, it attracts both local and international anglers eager to experience the thrill of fishing in the rich grounds of the St. George Channel.
Organized by renowned lure maker John Lau and sponsored by Tropicana Limited, the tournament is celebrated for its excitement, camaraderie, and the electric atmosphere it creates. It's the highlight of the year, where fishing enthusiasts come together to share their passion, swap stories, and compete while testing their skills against some of the ocean’s most formidable creatures.
In 2019, the tournament made history by tagging and releasing 245 blue marlins—the highest ever recorded in Papua New Guinea! Join us in Kokopo in November 2025 and be part of this iconic event that brings together the best in game fishing.
